What to expect from your Experience Day
Step back in time to the age of the Tudors and discover what daily life was like through the eyes of Burton Constable Hall’s former resident, Lady Margaret Constable. Don Tudor ruffs, handle objects and help prepare the Great Hall for a Tudor feast. See parts of this incredible house to learn more about her life, including why her religious views got her into trouble! We’ll end the experience by getting our dancing shoes on and trying traditional Tudor dancing!
Your led session includes:
- Introduction to the site and setting the scene about the session – including meeting, Lady Margaret Constable (character-led)
- An overview to the Tudor period and the kings and queens of the time
- Object handling linked to aspects of Tudor life – education, toys and games and feasting
- Visiting key locations of the Hall linked to Lady Margaret’s life – the Chapel and Long Gallery
- Dressing up in Tudor-style costumes
- Investigating Tudor diet and preparing a table for a feast
- Having a go at traditional Tudor dancing
- Plenary and evaluation
Group size
We can accommodate up to two groups from your school per available date – with a maximum of 35 pupils per group.
Timings
Led sessions are delivered from 10am - 12pm for the first group and 12.30pm - 2.30pm for the second group.
Make a full day of your visit
When completing your booking through Eventbrite you will be asked about whether you wish to book a space for lunch and a free Parkland Tour.
Our Parkland Tour is led by our groundsman around our beautiful parkland. The 90 minute session focusses on the conservation and farming we undertake and provides a chance for your pupils to investigate the wildlife and habitats around the estate. Depending on the time of year that you visit, your pupils may see farm animals; investigate owl droppings or see what insects are living in our fields, trees and woodlands. It’s essential that your pupils are dressed for the weather (waterproofs for bad weather and hats and sun cream for sunnier days) and sturdy footwear is essential.
If you are bringing two groups we strongly recommend that you add the Parkland Tour to your booking unless you are bringing groups to Burton Constable Hall separately for the start of their led session
