Assistance dogs

Guidance and assistance dogs are welcome.

Baby change

Baby change facilities are available in the accessible toilet. (Currently closed for refurbishment.)

Braille blocks

Braille alphabet blocks are available in the Victorian storytelling area.

BSL

BSL interpretation is available for talks and tours.

Carers

The museum is free for everyone, so carers are welcome to join the people they support on their visit.

Disabled parking

You’ll find blue badge parking on South Church Side (our street) or nearby on Silver Street.

There’s also parking at Market Place (on-street), Osbourne Street and Lowgate (multi-storey) or Wilberforce Drive (pay and display).

Lighting

Some areas of the museum can be quite dark, including: the Ancient Egypt gallery and the Victorian laundry.

Roads and paths

South Churchside is a cobbled street with a paving stone pavement.

Sign language

Sign language alphabet blocks are available in the Victorian storytelling area.

Toilets

The toilets are upstairs, accessible by lift. There is a combined accessible toilet/baby change facility. (Please note: the toilets are currently closed for refurbishment.)

The nearest Changing Places toilet is in Trinity Market across the square (near the Lowgate entrance).

Wheelchairs

The museum is accessible for wheelchair users, with step-free access at the front of the building and a lift to the first floor. Access to the education room and lift is via a ramp.

We also have a manual wheelchair available to borrow.

We have some books and puppets on the raised balcony in the Victorian storytelling area. We can bring these down to the ground floor for you – just ask our friendly team for assistance.
