Contract: Freelance, 1 year (June 2026 - May 2027)

Hours: Average 2-3 days per week, but with flexibility for some longer weeks  (e.g. during installation), and some weeks where activity is low. This will be agreed between the Project Producer and the Curator of Art.

Do you have experience of working with young people to inspire creativity and deliver project? Have you got experience of undertaking historical research to deliver exhibitions?  If so, the Ferens Art Gallery would like to hear from you.

We are seeking a Project Producer to work with the Curator of Art at the Ferens Art Gallery to deliver an exhibition funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Tate and National Portrait Gallery.

You will lead the coordination and delivery of an exhibition at Ferens Art Gallery, opening on 29 January 2027, which will showcase a self-portrait by Civil War portrait artist William Dobson which has been jointly acquired by the Tate and National Portrait Gallery.  Working with the curatorial team you will create an exhibition around this work, exploring Hull’s history of rebellion and creativity from the Peasant Revolt to the present.

An important part of this project will be working with The Warren Youth Project to lead the creation of a musical and creative response to the exhibition.   You will work with a group of young people (aged 18-25) to deliver this project, and work with us to recruit a musical coordinator to support the group.

This project will be a great opportunity to work with local and National partners on a high profile project that will launch the Ferens Art Gallery’s centenary year. We will also support the Project Producer to gain key experience of delivering exhibitions within a museum environment.
