A Struggle for the Soul of Anti-Trafficking at the League of Nations
In
partnership with the Wilberforce Institute, the lecture will begin at 4.30pm,
directly after the Museum closes, and all will take place in Oriel Chambers, 27
High Street, Hull, HU1 1N.
Professor
of International Law at Monash University, Australia, Professor Jean Allain,
who is also Adjunct Professor at the Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung,
Indonesia, and Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria, South
Africa, has been Leverhulme Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham
during 2023 and 2024.
His talk is
one of the products of that fellowship: ‘A Struggle for the Soul of
Anti-Trafficking at the League of Nations’. Prof Allain will examine two
episodes in the 1920s which speak to the dissimulation which transpired within
the League of Nations which allowed it to first capture the anti-trafficking
framework; then change its very nature.
