Renaissance and Baroque

Ferens Art Gallery holds a significant collection of works from 1320 onwards. That's over 700 years of art, which is unusual for a regional gallery.

We have some brilliant examples of Renaissance and Baroque paintings for you to enjoy, depicting a mixture of Christian imagery and early portraits.

You'll find religious subjects painted by Phillip de Champaigne and Francesco Maffei. While our portraits include work by Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger and Jusepe de Ribera among others.

Together, the collection shows the development of Western art.
