There’s loads for families to enjoy across the Museums Quarter throughout the summer holidays. From garden games and family trails to crafts, dressing up and cosy story corners, there’s something for all ages to discover.

Museum Quarter Garden

Make the most of summer in our beautiful garden:

  • Challenge your family to a game on the lawn with our giant garden games.
  • Relax in one of our garden deck chairs.
  • Have fun posing with one of our pirate or seaside photo cutout boards.
  • Borrow a Garden Explorer Pack from the Hull and East Riding Museum reception and see what wildlife and nature you can spot.
  • Bring a picnic and relax on the grass or at one of our picnic benches.
  • Fancy a treat? Ice creams, snacks and hot and cold drinks are available to buy every day.

Rainy weather? No problem! We'll have an indoor picnic space ready for you.

Streetlife Museum

Step inside for plenty of family-friendly fun:

  • Get creative with free self-led crafts, colouring sheets and puzzles.
  • Enjoy maritime-themed board games and construction blocks.
  • Visit our cosy story and play corner on the first floor – perfect for younger visitors.
  • Dress up as a sailor or seafarer in our maritime dressing-up area.
  • Pick up a copy of our Summer Maritime Family Trail and explore the museum together.

Relaxed (SEND) Family Craft Sessions

Our relaxed family craft workshops are designed for children with disabilities, neurodivergent children, and children who may find busy environments overwhelming.

These smaller, quieter sessions take place every Thursday 10.30am-12noon at the Streetlife Museum.

Places are limited and booking is essential. These sessions offer a welcoming, supportive environment where families can enjoy getting creative together at their own pace.

23 July – Mini Boats & Treasure Chests - Book Tickets
Make a mini 3D boat and treasure chest, inspired by pirates, explorers and seaside adventures.

30 July – Mini Beaches & Seabird Puppets - Book Tickets
Create a miniature beach scene and a seabird puppet, or use the materials to make your own unique creations.

6 August – Seaside Wreaths & Card Games - Book Tickets
Design a maritime-themed wreath and make a fun seaside card game to take home.

13 August – Sea Monsters & Starfish Decorations - Book Tickets
Build recycled sea monsters and create colourful hanging starfish decorations.

20 August – Stars, Ships & Sailors - Book Tickets
Make star decorations, ship's wheel dreamcatchers and sailor hats, or explore your own creative ideas.

27 August – Sharks & Whales - Book Tickets
Dive into a variety of sea-life themed crafts inspired by sharks, whales and ocean creatures.

3 September – Famous Fish - Book Tickets
Get creative with fish-themed crafts inspired by favourite characters from books and films.
