We have lots on offer for families and under 5s, from relaxed learning to hands-on creative activities

Families at Ferens Art Gallery

From lions and mermaids to museum trails, we have a range of fun, free and family-friendly activities for you to enjoy at Ferens Art Gallery.

Visit Explore Art – our specially designed gallery for 0–5-year-olds. Discover interactive displays. Get creative in the drawing corner. Then pick up a book and enjoy story time together.

Or join us for Mini Masterpieces, our regular morning of art activities. We have the art supplies and lots of inspiring artworks – just bring your imagination and get creative!

The stop off in our family friendly café, for a bite to eat from our Little Artists Menu.

Families at Streetlife Museum

Toot toot! All aboard for a great day out at Streetlife Museum.

We have 200 years of transportation to explore – from boneshaker bicycles to steam-powered cars! Get playing in our retro arcade. Hop on a real Victorian carriage. And take the driving seat in our historic car ride. Then stroll through history in our 1940s high street.

Why not make a day of it? Bring a picnic to enjoy in Museums Quarter Gardens, then head over to Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology next door!

And if the outdoors is your thing, join us for Tree Babies and Tots, a nature-based group run by Phoenix Wellbeing. 

Designed for parents and carers with babies and young children, the group offers relaxed, mindful activities focused on mental health and wellbeing.

Families at Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology

Dig into 235 million years of history!

Discover dinosaur bones and come face to face with a woolly mammoth. Dress up medieval style or stroll through the Roman marketplace. There’s so much fun to be had at our museum. 

Bring your packed lunch along to enjoy the Museums Quarter Garden. The hop along to the Streetlife Museum for more adventure!

We also have lots of fun, family-friendly activities throughout the summer holidays. Including Summer Archaeology Club, a chance for 8–13-year-olds to dig deep and get hands-on with real archaeological finds.

Every Easter, Summer and Christmas school holiday we run special themed trails to help you explore our fascinating sites. They’re fun, free and designed with families in mind! Check our What’s on page for all the latest trail events.

Magical Museums Club

Is your child's school part of our Magical Museums membership scheme? If so, then your child is part of our Magical Museums Club!

As a club member, they're entitled to a free rewards card. Bring this with you to collect stamps when you visit any of our sites. Once the card is full, your child can swap it for a small, free gift.

To find out if your child’s school is a Magical Museums member (and collect a rewards card), visit the front desk at any of our sites.

We also send out special e-newsletters to members at Easter, Summer and Christmas. The newsletters are full of activities for children inspired by the museum collections. As well as news about any exciting family events we have coming up. Sign up below to receive our e-newsletters.
