Assistance dogs

Guidance and assistance dogs are welcome.

Baby change

A baby change facility is available in the toilets situated through the main entrance that opens onto the gardens of the house.

BSL interpretation is available for talks and tours.

The museum is free for everyone, so carers are welcome to join the people they support on their visit.

Disabled parking

You’ll find blue badge parking on Gandhi Way (formerly George Yard) and Alfred Gelder Street (opposite the White Hart pub).

Short stay pay and display parking is available at Lowgate car park on Wilberforce Drive, just a five-minute walk away.

Some areas of the museum can be quite dark. Upstairs some of the rooms have dark wood walls and the middle passageway of the slavery galleries is quite dark.

Roads and paths

The entrance to Wilberforce House Museum is level access. High Street is a cobbled street with a paving stone pavement. It has dropped kerbs at the Museums Quarter entrances.

There is a set of toilets (including an accessible toilet) through the main entrance that opens onto the gardens of the house. The toilets are outside, and the pathway to them is made of older paving stones.

The nearest Changing Places toilet is on the ground floor of the Guildhall. Please ask at the reception for directions.

The museum is largely accessible for wheelchair users, with step-free access at the front of the building and a lift between floors. However, three galleries on the first floor are not accessible via the lift. In addition, a number of thresholds upstairs are too narrow for larger electric wheelchairs. This is due to the historic nature of the house. We apologise for the inconvenience.

We also have a manual wheelchair available to borrow.

Need a wheelchair accessible taxi? Call Wheelchair Taxi Transport Hull on 01482 473 235.
