What to expect from your Experience Day

It's Christmas Eve and all the family are out at a Christmas party. Children will help Mrs Miggins, our Victorian housekeeper, as she prepares the house for Christmas Day. In this immersive experience, children will learn how Christmas was celebrated in the past - from decorating the tree, laying the table to decking the halls.

Your led session includes:

  • Introduction to the site and setting the scene to the session and historical period
  • This session is delivered in character by Mrs Miggins, a Victorian housekeeper
  • Interactive on-gallery activities which include laying the table, decorating the Christmas tree and decorating the hallway
  • Making traditional decorations and crafts, including a pomander, to take back to school
  • Plenary and evaluation

Group size

We can accommodate up to two groups from your school per available date – with a maximum of 35 pupils per group.

Timings

Led sessions are delivered from 10am - 12pm for the first group and 12.30pm - 2.30pm for the second group.

Make a full day of your visit

When completing your booking through Eventbrite, you will be asked about whether you wish to book a space for lunch and self-directed time too.

Self-directed time is only available at Streetlife Museum when booking this led session. Streetlife Museum is accessed via Wilberforce House Gardens at the rear of Wilberforce House Museum - please factor this into your risk planning. Please note that other groups may be taking part in activities around the galleries at Streetlife Museum - please bear this in mind when visiting with your group(s).

If you are bringing two groups: we strongly recommend that you add self-directed time to your booking unless you are bringing groups to the Wilberforce House Museum separately for the start of their led session.

Self-directed time does not feature any led activity by museum staff - please plan your self-directed time around the museum accordingly.
